North Indianapolis Tree Removal and Landscape Removal: Preparing an HOA Common Area for New Grass

When a damaged tree needs to be removed from an HOA common area, the job often involves more than simply cutting down the tree. Once the tree is gone, there may still be a stump, wood debris, stump grindings, bare soil, and a landscape area that needs to be restored.

That was the situation Big Boy Services recently encountered at a Northside Indianapolis HOA.

The HOA had a damaged tree located in a common area. They needed the tree removed, the stump ground, and the area cleaned up. They also wanted the site prepared for grass seed so the landscape could begin recovering after the removal.

Big Boy Services handled the project from tree removal through grass-seed preparation.

North Indianapolis Tree Removal

The first step was removing the damaged tree from the HOA common area.

Tree removal can be an important part of maintaining shared HOA property, particularly when a damaged or declining tree presents a concern for the surrounding landscape or nearby property.

After removing the tree, we ground the remaining stump below the surface. Stump grinding removes the visible stump and produces wood grindings that need to be addressed as part of the cleanup process.

We then hauled away the tree debris and excess stump grindings, leaving the area ready for the next phase of the project.

Preparing the Area for Grass Seed

The HOA didn’t want the project to end with an empty area where the tree had been.

They wanted the site prepared for new grass.

To accomplish that, Big Boy Services installed topsoil over the prepared area and then installed grass seed. We also installed straw mat over the seeded area and secured it with biodegradable stakes.

The straw mat helps protect the newly seeded area while the grass begins to establish.

This final step changed the project from simply removing a damaged tree into a more complete landscape removal and site-preparation project.

Why Tree Removal Can Be Part of a Larger Landscape Removal Project

Landscape removal isn’t always limited to removing an entire landscape bed or clearing a large section of vegetation.

It can also involve removing individual trees, shrubs, unwanted vegetation, and other landscape elements that need to be taken out before an area can be restored or redesigned.

For HOA properties, this can be particularly useful because common areas often need to remain clean, safe, and visually maintained.

A landscape removal project may include:

The appropriate scope depends on the condition of the property and what the property owner or HOA wants to accomplish with the area.

Our Approach to HOA Vegetation Projects

For this North Indianapolis HOA project, the goal was straightforward: remove the damaged tree, clean up the area, and prepare the site for new grass.

By handling the tree removal, stump grinding, debris removal, topsoil installation, grass seeding, and straw-mat installation as one project, Big Boy Services was able to leave the common area ready for the next stage of its landscape restoration.

This type of project is a good example of why it can be useful to consider the entire site—not just the tree itself—when planning vegetation removal.
